      Dicentra spectabilis, commonly known as Bleeding Heart, is a popular spring-blooming perennial famous for its arching stems lined with heart-shaped, pink and white flowers. While it was formerly classified in the genus Dicentra, it has been reclassified by botanists as Lamprocapnos spectabilis, though it is still frequently sold under its original name.
      Flowers: The plant produces 1- to 2-inch, pendulous flowers that resemble puffy hearts with a white "teardrop" protruding from the bottom.
      Dormancy: As a spring ephemeral, the foliage often yellows and dies back to the ground in midsummer once the heat arrives.
      Wildlife: The nectar-rich blooms attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.
